Budget carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air (LSE: WIZZ) saw increased passenger numbers in December 2022 despite hundreds of flight cancellations to Israel, companies reported on Wednesday.
Ryanair flew 12.5 million passengers, up 8.7% from December 2021. However, over 900 flights were cancelled amid the Israel-Gaza conflict. Wizz Air carried 5 million passengers, a 19% increase. But both airlines saw lower load factors and Wizz’s CO2 emissions rose 23% to 500,027 tonnes.
